Spells are an expression of magic that wizards, pets, and other characters use to attack or assist each other.
As of the 2023 Battle Remake, all previous spells are obsolete and new spells have taken their place. A similar major change to the list of available spells occurred on 13 September 2018, rendering the even older list of spells depreciated.

Epic Attacks[]
- Main article: Epic Attacks
Epics from both the original and mythical lines granted players the ability to summon them for one turn every non-player-versus-player (non-PvP) battle to cast their signature epic attack. Players must either unlock an original epic from a distribution code, obtain one from a legacy membership purchase made in late 2020 (Tidus only), or hatch an Epic Egg from the August 2021 distribution to be able to cast an epic attack. Each of these spells has only one element now; previously, epic attacks could be of special elements (e.g. Mech or Ice & Fire) that would give the spell unusual elemental strengths and weaknesses, and these elements would match those of their assigned epic. Before the 2023 Battle Remake, epic attacks were area spells that looked like the fully evolved normal spell of its element.
Energy Cost of Spells[]
- Main article: Energy (Prodigy Math Game)
The ability of an entity to cast a spell relies greatly on the spell's recharge statistic. In the 2023 Battle Remake, a spell card will state the amount of turns it takes for a spell to recharge. If a spell has a "Never" recharge statistic, the spell can only be used once per battle. The same was true for Epic Attacks before they became temporarily discontinued in 2023, and using one epic attack in a battle meant that the rest could not be used until the player entered a different battle.
If a spell takes several turns to charge or recharge, its associated spell card at the bottom of the player's in-battle screen will gain a colored diagonal stripe for each recovered turn after its previous use or, in the case of the spell needing to be charged since the beginning of the battle, each turn made since the start. A set of fully-highlighted stripes on a spell card indicates that the chosen wizard or pet can reuse that spell.
Before the 2023 Battle Remake, there were seven known types of spells categorized by their ability to recharge.
- Main single spells, which most entities possessed, were their main spell that helped them fight while recharging other more advantageous yet expensive spells. They took no energy to cast and provided one magic point to fill a team's All-Out Attack meter before the turn ended. However, after a team's turn ended, they would not be rewarded any additional magic points.
- Main area spells, which most entities possessed, were usually of the same element as the caster (the pets Chill & Char and Shiver & Scorch as well as a few other NPCs are the exceptions to this rule) and allowed the caster to deal damage to multiple enemies at once if more than one were around to fight. Main area spells required three magic points and consumed all three before one point would be restored to that team by the end of their turn.
- Secondary single spells were available to most pets and the wizard, but the wizard would need to equip a relic or a single-target spell wand (e.g. a Flamerose Wand) to cast one. They dealt damage specifically to one enemy, just like main single spells, but they consumed one magic point to cast and returned the magic point at the end of the user's team's turn. Oftentimes, a secondary single spell was not of the same element as the caster; the only way for a wizard to cast a secondary single spell of the same element as them would be to equip an Ancient Astral Relic to cast Ray of The Ancient.
- Secondary area spells were available to most pets and the wizard, but the wizard would need to equip a wand with such a spell to use one themselves. Not all pets or entities could learn secondary area spells, but these were few compared to the majority of battleable creatures. Secondary spells were often of a foreign element to the caster and required four magic points to cast, returning one point at the end of the turn. Except for All-Out Attacks, secondary area spells were the most expensive in terms of energy.
- The All-Out Attack required ten stored magic points in the All-Out Attack meter to the left of a player's hearts bar. It would consume all of those points upon use, but one would immediately return to the player's team after the turn ended.
- Epic Attacks were accessible immediately from the start of battle and did not have the ability to recharge.
- The Focus Spell, Co-op Beam, Co-op Final Attack, The Ancient's elementless spells, and other miscellaneous spells may have had the ability to recharge but relied on special conditions to use without hacking. Because of their general inaccessibility, no recharge data existed for these few.
Trivia[]
- Shadow Epic Attacks are the only spells that haven't changed their name, but they did have their look altered.
- All Astral spells that pets could learn before the 2018 Battle Remake have been replaced with Storm spells because that element became restricted from pet use. In 2023, Astral spells have been reintroduced to some species, especially Astral species.
- The original Royal Roar closely resembled Zero, an old Astral spell.
- In 2018, spells that healed entities have been removed from the game but have since been reintroduced in 2023 in the form of new spells.
- Some spells have had their look but not their name changed between the 2016-2018 and 2018-2023 battle versions; for example, Storm's Coming and Fireball did not change elements but received aesthetic and statistical changes.
